Camera types
Which type fits the station

Smart camera
Inspection and identification run on the camera. Fits presence, print or a fixed code check when the PLC only needs pass/fail plus I/O.

GigE
Area-scan cameras with GigE Vision. Use this interface when the PC sits in the cabinet, USB is too short, or several cameras share a switch and PoE.

Line scan
For webs, coils and long profiles that move continuously. The camera builds the image line by line, usually locked to an encoder.

Area scan
Standard 2D camera for locate, measure and inspect when the part fits the field of view.

3D
Height, volume or grasp pose. Needed when a 2D image cannot give Z, for example in bin picking.

Code reader
Fixed readers for 1D and 2D codes. Choose on field of view, working distance and whether the mark is printed or DPM.

What to lock before you open a datasheet
Resolution follows the smallest defect and the field of view. The interface follows cable length and how many cameras share a PC. Image processing on the camera or on a PC follows the tools you actually need.
