Line scan cameras
Cameras that build the image line by line while the product moves. Use this when a web, coil or long profile does not fit an area-scan field of view at the resolution you need.

Surface inspection on coil or film
Steel coil, film or extrusion runs continuously past a fixed camera. An area-scan field of view either crops the length or drops the resolution along the travel. A line-scan camera takes a line per encoder pulse. Lighting is usually a line light on that scan line, not a flood over the whole field. If the part sits still and fits the field of view, start with area scan. Line scan adds encoder and line-light work you do not need on a stopped part. Background: what a line-scan camera is.
