Selection guide

Start with the image task, then fit the camera into the machine

The selector contains only the 49 supplied combinations. Choose resolution and monochrome or colour from the inspection task. Choose the data interface from the host, cable and power design. Lens mount and hardware configuration determine how the optics and electronics fit into the available space.

Do not treat the board outline as the complete installation envelope

Include the lens, connector access, cable bend radius, strain relief, heat transfer and service clearance. Compare the exact model drawing with the enclosure and mounting parts before releasing the mechanical design.

Resolution and mono/colour

Calculate millimetres per pixel from the field width and horizontal resolution. Confirm that the smallest defect or feature remains measurable under representative lighting. Use colour only when colour contributes to the decision.

GigE or USB 3.0

Check host bandwidth, cable length, connector retention, power delivery and the required frame rate. Validate the final cable and host controller; an interface name alone does not define sustained acquisition performance.

Lens mount and board configuration

M12 and C-mount versions support different optics. Bare-board versions require a separate optical or mechanical assembly. FPC configurations change board connection and routing. Confirm flange position and mounting tolerances for the selected SKU.

Frame rate, shutter type, sensor, pixel size, power and dimensions remain SKU specifications. Six legacy 12 MP USB records do not document exact pixel dimensions in the current source data.

Test image quality and integration together

Acceptance should use the selected SKU, final lens, cable, host and mounting arrangement.

  • Image representative good and rejected parts across the complete field of view and working-distance tolerance.
  • Run acquisition at the required cycle time and record dropped frames, exposure margin and image-processing time.
  • Check connector access, cable movement, temperature and image stability in the final enclosure.
  • Restart the host and camera and confirm controlled recovery of acquisition, triggering and I/O.

Inputs for the business case

Compare complete camera assemblies using measured process requirements.

  • Camera, lens, lighting, cable, host interface and mounting costs.
  • Engineering time for optics, enclosure, thermal design, software and commissioning.
  • Changeover, maintenance access, cable replacement, rejects and downtime.

Selection questions

Frequently asked questions

These answers cover the 49 listed MV-CB variants. Check the specifications and mechanical drawing of the exact model before completing the camera and optics design.

Which resolution should I choose?

Available resolutions run from 720 × 540 to 4032 × 3036 pixels. Base the choice on the full field of view and the smallest feature that must remain visible. As a first calculation, divide the field width by the number of horizontal pixels to obtain millimetres per pixel. Apply a practical safety margin and verify the result with representative good and rejected samples.

When should I choose monochrome or colour?

Choose colour when colour itself is part of the inspection decision. Monochrome is usually the more direct choice for geometry, edges, position, text and brightness contrast. Both versions exist in the family, but not for every combination of resolution, interface and lens mount.

What is the practical difference between GigE and USB 3.0?

The GigE models list GigE Vision V2.0 and GenICam compatibility; their specifications include 9 to 24 VDC and PoE support. The USB models list USB3 Vision and GenICam and are powered through USB on the specified variants. Select the interface together with the host connection, cable arrangement, power design and required frame rate.

What do M12, C-mount and no lens mount mean?

M12 is intended for compact M12 optics. C-mount accepts interchangeable C-mount lenses and provides more freedom when matching focal length, field of view and working distance. A model without a lens mount is a bare-board configuration for integration with a separate optical or mechanical assembly. Check flange position, available space and the model drawing before selecting the lens.

What does the hardware configuration change?

The range contains standard-board and FPC versions, including specific 11-series and 60-F-series FPC configurations. FPC means that a flexible printed circuit is part of the camera connection or construction. This choice affects mechanical integration and cable routing; it does not replace the separate decisions for lens mount and data interface.

Can every buyer-axis choice be combined?

No. The family consists of 49 fixed model combinations. Depending on the exact model, the listed maximum frame rate ranges from 9.7 to 249.1 fps, and both global-shutter and rolling-shutter sensors occur. Some maxima also depend on pixel format, ADC setting or image-compression mode. Select an existing SKU first, then verify its full-resolution frame rate, shutter type, dimensions and power requirements.
