Vision Components

Machine vision systems with several Ethernet devices need enough independent ports and a clear power concept. The MV-GE4000 family provides two- and four-port 2.5G Ethernet adapters with or without PoE support. Connection count, reserve capacity, total power demand, cooling and sustained data transfer determine the suitable configuration.

Connect multiple vision devices without exhausting network capacity

A multi-camera system needs enough Ethernet ports, predictable data transfer and a power design that matches the connected devices. Adapter selection affects computer configuration, cabling, cooling and the number of separate power connections in the machine.

Selection question

Select port count and power delivery separately

The family contains every combination of two or four Ethernet ports and operation with or without PoE support. Count the devices that require dedicated connections and allow for planned expansion. Then determine whether the connected equipment must receive power through Ethernet.

Check the complete computer configuration

Confirm host-system compatibility, available installation space, cooling and software support. For PoE versions, include the power required by all connected devices and verify the available power budget under the intended operating conditions.

Two or four Ethernet ports

Choose two ports when the installed and reserved connections fit within that count. Choose four ports when the system requires more direct connections or additional reserve. Confirm sustained transfer with all devices active at the same time.

With or without PoE support

PoE can reduce separate power cabling when the connected device and installation support the same power arrangement. A non-PoE version is appropriate when devices already have separate power or when power is managed elsewhere in the machine.

Adapter type, material code, weight and documented power-consumption values remain SKU specifications below the selector.

Validate all active connections together

Test the adapter as part of the complete acquisition computer and network.

  • Confirm physical fit, host compatibility, driver support and recognition after a cold start.
  • Run every connected device at the intended acquisition settings and production cycle.
  • Record dropped data, latency, processor load and adapter temperature during a representative production run.
  • For PoE versions, verify startup, simultaneous load and recovery after power or network interruption.

Inputs for the business case

Compare complete connection concepts using measured system requirements.

  • Required ports, planned reserve, separate power supplies and cable runs.
  • Adapter, host computer, power hardware, cooling, cabling and integration costs.
  • Commissioning, fault diagnosis, cable replacement, downtime and future expansion.

MV-GE4000 specification questions

Which models have two Ethernet ports?

MV-GE4002 has two ports without PoE support. MV-GE4002P has two ports with PoE support.

Which models have four Ethernet ports?

MV-GE4004 has four ports without PoE support. MV-GE4004P has four ports with PoE support.

What changes when PoE support is selected?

A PoE-capable adapter can support power delivery over the Ethernet connection when the connected equipment and power design are compatible. Confirm the complete power budget and cabling before selection.

Are power-consumption values the same for every model?

No. The non-PoE models document 4 W and 6.3 W. The PoE models document 4 W and 6.1 W without PoE load. Use the selected SKU documentation and include connected-device power separately.

Why is weight not a selector?

Weight follows the selected hardware configuration. It is relevant for installation but does not define the required number of connections or whether PoE is needed, so it remains a SKU specification.

How should the adapter be accepted for production?

Operate all intended devices simultaneously and record data loss, latency, processor load and temperature over a representative run. For PoE versions, also test startup and recovery at the expected electrical load.
